Clock to Rock - Big Ben, London to the rock of Gibraltar 2nd -19th September 2011

Paul Beven & Jane Kennet are cycling to Gibraltar for the British Heart Foundation. Our target is to raise £12,000. We are hoping to keep you up to date with our training and fund raising progress so far via this blog. Signals and stamina permitting with any luck we can post along the actual journey too. Sponsor us now by clicking this link to our JustGiving page or email me if you prefer. LATEST NEWS - Despite the BHF postponing their official trip until sometime in 2012 we are pressing ahead with an independent trip of our own although the BHF are providing some assistance to us to help us on our way.

Family Fun Dog Show - Sunday 15th May

OK the next event is in planning and is proving to be rather exciting. Its going to be a community event on Hampton Green, Hampton Middlesex. Here's the flyer for it although if you read the title of the post you have probably guessed it by now....

These are the classes available:

1.       Prettiest bitch
2.       Most handsome dog
3.       Dog with the waggiest tail
4.       Fancy dress dog
5.       Best child handler & dog team
6.       Cutest puppy (1 year and under)
7.       Best veteran (8 years and older)
8.       Best trick
9.       Best rescue dog (i.e. RSPCA/Battersea etc.)
10.     Dog the judge would like to take home the most

We are hoping it will be an afternoon of fun for everyone. Yvonne Kelleher at the council offices has been a fabulous help and also Suzanne at the Royal Parks who has promised to help advertise in Bushey Park for local dog walkers. We are now planning other adverts etc but if you know anyone in the area who would be interested to join in the fun with their dog (s) do pass on the details. Its only £2/dog/class. Just turn up on the day.

All this event organising is pretty time consuming it has to be said and I am looking forward to a weekend out of London. I missed mothers day last weekend with the car rally so am looking forward to catching up with my mum and also a nice long bike ride around the Essex villages.

Saturday is also the Grand National of course and we have a sweepstake running. Whoever wins stands to gain £20 and a bottle of bubbly with £85 going towards the BHF fund. All being well this will take us to 20% of our total at £2400 so its another milestone day.

With that I am off to bed......night all. zzzzzz...zzzzzzzz

Photos from the car rally

I just thought I should post some of the photos of the car rally that Michelle kindly took for us. They are mostly photos of the triumphant raffle prize winners. Including Nathan with some of his eventual 5 prizes..! If anyone wants copies I am sure we can arrange to send them on.

A fun day and much chocolate was had by all. :-)

Car Rally & Easter Egg hunt

Well done to all those who took part today and thanks for coming along. Everyone who set off managed to find their way to the end so our directions couldn't have been too bad. There were an impressive number of correct answers too, well done all.

Michelle took lots of lovely pictures so I will share those with you when we can but I couldn't resist this one of a very cool member of our winning team "The Speedwell Sprites".

It looks like we made £173 today with proceeds from donations, entry fees and the raffle.

Thank you one and all and perhaps we could make it an annual event...?

"One day like this a year would see me right......"

WOW what an amazing day we have had today!

It started early when Jill and I met at Pimlico tube station and signed in with the station supervisor to our allotted day of collecting (which was kindly allocated to us by London Underground). We stood in the ticket hall and started bucket and tin shaking for the next 3 hours. It was amazing actually to see the response that people had and just how generous some people can be. People of Pimlico  I have total respect and thanks for you. :-)  Jill managed 3 hours of can shaking with her knee brace on fresh from a Skiing injury that will probably require knee surgery. However, she didn't let it stop her accosting alot of people for their spare cash.

My efforts before the Glamour took over..!

We left the train station at about 10,00hrs as the rush hour dissipated. I headed to the office feeling very conspicuous in my BHF shirt with my laden bucket in tow. 3 people on the train gave me money even though I sat quietly for the duration of the journey. Incredible. When we reached the office my mate Dan counted the dosh and to our utter amazement there was £240 odd pounds. Amazing but then the day got even better...

Lara and her mother Susan then took up the charge for the afternoon rush hour and we had all expected to perhaps see a little less as we thought alot of the people who donated in the morning would have been returning but they counted a staggering £336. So that's about £580....!!!!!

Lara & Susan coin counting
Isn't that totally incredible. Now If you saw Lara you would understand why all those boys would want an excuse to stop and chat and for that I am truly thankful. :-)Susan without having met you I can only imagine that you share alot of the same genes and traits that you have passed to Lara and your powers of persuation exceed those of Jill and I.

Lar & Susan, the best fund raisers and helpers anyone could as for....

All that remains is to extend a very big THANK YOU for the amazing help we received but also from all those lovely people who donated. We are now nudging close to 20% of our total. Yippeeee...........
